Saturday, 12/31! GRAIL reaches the moon, hopefully!

Happy New Year, all!

In case you didn't know, the GRAIL twin satellites are, hopefully inserting into orbit around the Moon, studying the gravitational field of Earth's moon. Aboard these 2 satellites are 8 cameras (4 on each) that students from around the world will be operating, taking photos from about 30-35 miles above! The program is called MoonKAM. If you are interested, email me! We will be participating!

Tour of the USS Michael Murphy - 12-3-11

On Dec. 3rd, 2011 and in conjunction with a partnership between Lockheed
Martin, the Maine Space
Grant Consortium, the University of Southern Maine and NASA, the AEGIS Test
Officer (CDR Matthew Schroeder) along with members of Lockheed Martin (Sharon
Eggleston and Brad Krog) hosted 14 University and High School Educators to a
tour of DDG 112 in hopes of inspiring future high school and college students
to pursue engineering careers.

These are the sites that I use for parts of the cell.

The John Kyrk site has some things (you have to click on the parts) like the nuclear pore complex and details about protein synthesis that I don't go to much into until we actually get to protein synthesis later on in the year, but it's not bad for them to see it and get exposed to the idea, I just don't give them questions that are that specific.

The University of Utah site is awesome. You can click below to make the cell membrane transparent and find your way around a little easier. This site has a great audio component to it.

Well, now I have a beautiful grandson (11/18/11) and WHAT A GREAT tour! We had awesome tour guides, a beautiful day and super company! Our thanks to CDR Matthew Schroeder for you time.
